The purpose for children to exercise their pincer grip, or pincer grasp, abilities is to get them ready for writing, colouring, self-feeding and to dress independently. Here are four activities that are low prep and multi-purpose. 1). Peeling Garlic

Provide your child with a garlic head and allow your child to explore the garlic. In the end, you can keep the garlic cloves in a sealed container and storing it in the fridge for future meals!

Alternative: peeling cheesestrings.

2). Rubber bands on Cardboard

Empty large paper towel rolls can be for older children and if they are up for a challenge. Smaller toilet paper rolls can be for beginners.

Alternative: rubber bands on Fisher-Prices' Little People Figures (https://amzn.to/3SSBsdV)

3). Hasbro's Connect-4

An old board game but a goodie! Hand/eye coordination skills are at work here. Also, you can make it a twist by applying those counting skills! As your toddler drops a token, get them to count along.

4). Peeling washi tape

Washi tape comes in many colours and patterns. If you want to practice your child's colours, use solid colours. Stick it on cardboard or cut out some shapes on cardstock and if you have the tape overlapping one another, it improves your child's problem solving skills.
